Kami & Alam shines as Nepal thrashes Malaysia
Kathmandu – Sompal Kami’s Five-For along with half century from Mehboob Alam helped Nepal to thrash the host Malaysia by five wickets in the ongoing Asian Cricket Council Premier League at Bayuemas, Kuala Lumpur today.
Nepal 150/5 (37.3 Overs) beat Malaysia 149/10 (43.0 Overs) by 5 wickets
Malaysia lost early wickets after winning the toss. Except their opener Anwar Arudin who contributed 34 runs at the top order, Shafiq Sharif 24 (46) & Suharril Fetri 22 (81) somehow tried to hang in there but it was all Nepalese bowlers who troubled them and wrapped them up for a modest 149 runs in 43 overs.
Sompal Kami was brilliant with his bowling, as he took five wickets in his 10 overs giving 47 runs. Basant Regmi grabbed two wickets whereas Mehboob Alam, Paras Khadka & Sagar Pun shared wicket apiece.
Nepal lost the service of in-form Subash Khakurel in the first over. Gyanendra Malla too departed early for 13 runs. Then after, Nepal lost Paras Khadka (11) and Opener Naresh Budhayair (8) and were in deep trouble losing four wickets for just 36 runs in 10 overs.
All Rounder Mehboob Alam and Sharad Vesawkar then guided the team to a Comprehensive victory, with a match winning 89 runs partnership for the fifth wicket. Alam scored a solid half century while Sharad (29*) played as a sheet anchor.
Suresh Navaratnam was pick of the bowler for Malaysia today as he grabbed three wickets.
For the outstanding bowling performance, Sompal Kami was adjudged Man of the Match and also Nrs. 10,000 from Nepali Movie – World Cup in Nepal.
Nepal will play Oman on Sunday at Bayuemas, Kuala Lumpur.

NEPAL CLASHES HONKONG
Kathmandu – After the end of 3rd and crucial day of the ACC premier league, Nepal looks an improved side but batting is still a concern for them. Nepal lost to Oman in a nail biting thriller in their last game; bowlers almost won the match that was thrown away undone by the batsman. Khakurel returned to pavilion in the third ball of the match when the scorecard wasn’t off the mark yet; Nepal kept losing wickets at the regular intervals making tough for the batsman to follow.
Sompal Kami and Sagar Pun put on a partnership of 28 for the last wicket to draw them to some respectable score of 157, but it was never going to be enough especially against a team that has been at its prime form. Some clumsy bowling early on by Mehboob Alam and some ridiculous decisions taken by the captain in the field withdraw the match from Nepal’s control. Tomorrow’s clash against Hong Kong will decide if the defending champions will get a chance or not to defend. If Nepal wins tomorrow, the hopes will be still alive but if they lose and Afghans wins against Oman then the dream of recreating the history will be dream forever.
This tournament has been an upset as far as Hong-Kong is concerned, they have played three and are yet to get off the mark in the points table and lie at the bottom. As Nepal, batting has been the concern for the Hong Kong too, bowling has been pretty impressive throughout the tournament but batting is yet to kick off. A win or a loss won’t really affect Hong Kong as they are already out of the tournament but they will be looking to clinch out their historic rival Nepal out off the tournament too.
Bowling of both of the teams has been at their best but batting have been demoralizing, only the difference is that Nepal is yet to face the strong opponents that Hong Kong has already faced. The contest tomorrow will be a do or die type for Nepal and it is sure there will be a nail biting finish to this epic match between these rivals.
Pitch and the Toss:
Pitch has been a factor in this tournament; it has behaved differently in numerous occasions than expected. It’s an early start in the morning so there is a little for the fast bowlers of the deck and of the air too but as the day goes on there will be simply nothing for the seamers, the pitch will slow down and start gripping and turning. The pitch is not a batting friendly; batsman will find it difficult to score runs.
Expected Score:
Something around 220 batting first will challenge the side batting second.
Toss:
In this sort of pitch where there is no clue how it will play, it’s always a good decision to get runs under your belt first.
Expected Teams:
Batting has been a concern for Nepal and it’s a must win game for them, so we might see some changes in the Nepali team.
Nepal (probable)
Subash Khakurel (wk), Naresh Budayair, Gyanendra Malla, Paras Khadka (c), Mehboob Alam, Aarif Sheikh, Sharad Vesawakar, Sagar Pun, Basant Regmi, Shakti Gauchan, Sompal Kami.
Hong Kong (probable)
I Ahmed, S Ali, JJ Atkinson (C) (wk), N Khan, B Hayat, W Barkat, A Sharma, H Amjad, T Afzal, N Ahmed, E Nawaz
EXPECTED RESULT:
Nepal has a very good chance of winning looking at the history and the forms of the players.

Chitwan – After the all-round performance- improved batting, disciplined bowling and better captaincy against Hong-Kong earlier day Nepal keep their hopes of retaining the trophy alive.
However, the match against the arch-rivals Afghanistan will decide the top position. It won’t be over for the losing team though; they will have to wait for the result between UAE and Oman hoping UAE wins but with a small margin. As Afghanistan is on the top of the table after the 4th day of action, chances are better for them also if them loose too. It’s a game of uncertainty, anything can happen. Both the teams will look to win tomorrow to ensure their place in the finals at Kinrara Oval in Kuala Lumpur 7:45 NPT onward.
When Nepal takes on Afghanistan whatever would be the situation or circumstances, pressure and expectations are at their best. Neither of them would give it up till the very last moment, competition in between the competition takes place, loss to another can be accepted but to arch-rivals; no never, as frenetic and as pressurizing as Indo-Pak game.
Last time these two giants of Asian cricket met in ICC Twenty-20 World Cup in Bangladesh, Nepal crunched the arch rivals by 9 runs. Nepal made respectable 142 giving Afghans some sort of challenge to maintain the tempo and pressure, they failed and Nepal registered their first ever win against them in T20 cricket. But the scenario now is totally different, a different mindset with different form of game and different temperament.
Nepal has won three of the four matches played and stands second on the point table. Bowlers did it for them in first two matches and batsmen did it in the fourth. Nepalese strike bowler Sompal Kami is in prime form picking up 14 wickets so far- the best by any bowler in this tournament, also the disciplined spin attack has paid for them. With overall improved performance, Nepal would look to upset Afghanistan in tomorrow’s last match of the tournament.
On the other hand, Afghanistan had looked a total side in this tournament. Their batting struggled a bit against the Malaysia but apart from that there is very little for them to be worried about. They have always played like a champion against Nepal and will look to continue that. Knowing it’s a must win game for both the team to remain alive in the tournament pressure will certainly would be on both the teams. The one which handles it better will end up winning tomorrow.
Pitch and Toss:
It’s an early start to the match so there might be something for the seamers early on off the deck and air. But after first powerplay as the moisture flies away there will be nothing for the seamers. Pitch will start gripping and ball will turn odd balls my keep low. Last match played here, the team batting first struggled against seam bowling. Seamers picked up 5 wickets in total clearly suggesting there is something for the seamers early on.
Toss:
Toss will play a part tomorrow, the team winning the toss will look to bowl first, help for the seamers, wet and heavy outfield might be the reasons.
Expected Score:
Something around 200-220 must be the team batting first looking around. Batting in this surface will ease quite a bit but not massively so team batting first must get to somewhere them to challenge the opposition.
Expected teams:
There won’t be any changes in both the teams, they looked good and fit.
Nepal(Probable):
Subash Khakurel (wk), Naresh Budayair, Gyanendra Malla, Paras Khadka (C), Sharad Vesawakar, Aarif Sheikh, Mehboob Alam, Binod Bhandari, Basant Regmi, Shakti Gauchan, Sompal Kami
Afghanistan (Probable):
NA Zadran, U Ghani, H Shaidi, N Ahmadzai, S Shenwari, M Nabi(C), M Ashraf, D Zadran, Shafiqullah (WK), S Zadran, A Hamza
Expected Result:
Afghanistan being a ODI nation and recently have qualified for the Asia Cup and the world cup has an upper hand on Nepal before the match starts.
